Native American Beading: Puerto Rican Flag

White star stands for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. The three sides of the equilateral triangle represent the three branches of the Republican government (executive, legislative and judicial branches). Three equal length sides to represent three equal powers.

The Problem I faced trying to recreate the flag was the uneasy task of trying to get the blue triangle to match up with the one in the actual flag. Here is my first try: jagged sides.

Here is my next try. The sides are not jagged but it is not an equilateral triangle. It is made of two 45-45-90 triangles.

Here is a bead design with a true equilateral triangle. It is made of two 30-60-90 triangles. I didn’t get to finish this project, as you can see there is no five-pointed star in the blue triangle. The problem in recreating the star is the same as recreating the blue triangle times five.

The author was a Latino high school student. I edited the text a bit, but these are all his words and work.
