Terms of Service

Effective date: September 14, 2026

Culturally Situated Design Tools (CSDT) at csdt.org is operated by the Center for Generative Justice.

By using CSDT, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

Agreement

These Terms cover csdt.org, CSDT learning tools, classrooms, project galleries, and related features (including Oral History and donations).

If you use CSDT for a school or organization, you confirm you have authority to accept these Terms for that use.

Educational service

CSDT provides free K–12 learning resources that connect cultural knowledge with STEM. It is offered for educational and community use—not as a commercial social network, and not to collect children’s personal identity information.

The Center for Generative Justice is the nonprofit steward. CSDT has been supported by the National Science Foundation; NSF funding does not mean NSF endorsement.

Accounts

Accounts use a username and password. Email is optional and not verified. A classroom number is optional.

You are responsible for your password, activity under your account, and choosing a school-appropriate username that does not include a child’s full legal name or other sensitive personal information.

Teachers who manage classroom use remain responsible for supervising students in their setting.

Teachers and classrooms

Teachers may create classrooms, share classroom numbers, approve join requests, invite members by email, and approve student projects.

If a student cannot reset a password (for example, no working email), a teacher may contact csdt@generativejustice.org for help. Teachers should also follow their school or district rules.

Acceptable use

CSDT is a school-oriented platform. Do not:

  • Post content that is inappropriate for a K–12 setting, harassing, or harmful
  • Attack or disrupt the service, upload malware, or overload the site
  • Impersonate others or misrepresent a school affiliation
  • Use the service to collect children’s personal information beyond what accounts and projects already involve
  • Violate applicable law

We may investigate reports and take action under our Copyright and Content Removal policy.

Your projects and content

You (or your school, where its policies apply) keep rights in creative work you make with CSDT tools.

By saving or uploading content, you give CSDT / the Center for Generative Justice permission to host, store, and display it as needed to run the service—including showing published work in the public gallery and allowing remix where the tools already support that.

Published projects may be visible to the public. Do not put private personal information in project files or descriptions.

Our materials

CSDT tools, curricula, branding, and site materials belong to CSDT / the Center for Generative Justice or their licensors. You may use them for educational purposes as the site allows. Do not claim them as your commercial product.

Heritage and cultural materials are for learning. We consider good-faith community concerns seriously (see Copyright and Content Removal).

Moderation and removal

Teachers may approve classroom projects. We may unpublish, remove, or restrict content that violates these Terms or that we receive a valid removal request about. Repeated violations may lead to account suspension.

Removal requests: Copyright and Content Removal.

Offline copies

Some tools can be used offline. Cloud login and cloud save still require the site and remain under these Terms and the Privacy Policy.

Donations

Donations are voluntary and help support the project. Payments are processed by Stripe. Donating does not buy ownership of CSDT.

Disclaimer

CSDT is provided “as is” for educational purposes. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access or that it will meet every classroom need. To the fullest extent allowed by law, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

NSF support does not mean the NSF endorses CSDT.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, the Center for Generative Justice, CSDT, and their operators are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, or for loss of data or classroom time from use of the service.

Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability for a claim related to the service is limited to the greater of (a) what you donated to us in the prior twelve months, if any, or (b) US $50—except where the law does not allow that limit.

Ending use

You may stop using CSDT anytime. To request account deletion, email csdt@generativejustice.org.

We may suspend or end access for Terms violations, security or legal reasons, or if we discontinue the service.

Changes

We may update these Terms. The effective date will change when we do. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised Terms, except where law requires otherwise.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, USA, except where mandatory local law applies. Courts in Michigan have jurisdiction over disputes arising from these Terms, subject to rights that cannot be waived.
