Patterns and Meanings
The design of kente cloth features many geometric patterns, and each pattern has a specific meaning, relating to the history or beliefs of the Ashanti people. Before becoming a master weaver, a person must learn the meanings of all of the patterns and how to create them. Some of the meanings of kente patterns are described below:
 
Afa - I have taken it.
 
Ohene Anewa - The king's eye, The king sees everything.
 
Nkyimkyim - Zigzag, Life is not a straight path.
 
Fatene - You go straight away to Agyeman.
 
Niata - Two-edged sword.
 
Trom Nwoma - Droughts, Smooth weave.
 
Kwadum Asa - Empty gun powder keg.
